I’m sorry to say that, as of today (June 13th, contest deadline is June 20th), we’ve still had only one entry for our DIY contest. Perhaps no one wants the prize, perhaps everyone has gone on summer vacation or is waiting to the last minute–I don’t know. If Stephanie wins by default, however, I won’t mind–she’s got chops. She just sent me her second contest entry, above:
I’m a real big J.Crew nut. More specifically, I love the vintagey dresses and tops they have (and their SHOES!). I saw this cute Hawaiian patchwork cami that they had in their catalog not too long ago. Typically for J.Crew’s cuter items, it’s already sold out (not that I would be willing to drop $110 for it anyway). But, as I was drooling over it in the catalog, I thought, I can make this! So, I thrifted several Hawaiian print shirts, shorts, and such from the local Goodwill. I cut them into 4-inch squares and laid out a pattern of the squares that would fit the babydoll top pattern that I was using. I serged all the squares together and cut out the pattern for the top. I sewed it together and added a grosgrain ribbon under the bust to accent the empire waist. The design is a little different than the J.Crew top, but I’m pleased with the result.
So am I, it looks incredible! Stephanie says she will probably make some for her store, although the pattern will be different.
So Cute again….stephanie!
…I’m working on my entry right now!! It involves 50s aluminum chairs and bottle caps….
Yay, Tressie! I’m looking forward to it.
Wow! I like her top more than the J. Crew version! Much more interesting…
Great idea!
Thank you, everyone, for the nice comments I’ve received! :)) And, I can’t wait to see Tressie’s project! It sounds very interesting. 🙂
Always, always Stephanie’s stuff is SO darling! Congrats my dear!
